Illuminated ABS Light

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) light on your dashboard is identified by the letters ABS inside a circle surrounded by parentheses. The ABS is an important part of the braking system as it prevents your wheels from locking if your vehicle starts to spin on wet, muddy, icy, or snowy surfaces. The ABS uses sensors in each wheel that detect if a wheel is about to lock. The system then pumps the brakes to keep the wheel moving.

If the ABS fails, the sensors connected to it will inform your computer. The computer then logs the error and activates the warning light to alert you. You can temporarily drive with a damaged ABS, but it’s not recommended, as your wheels could lock. We’ll find and repair the cause of the problem so you can drive safely.

Damaged Water Pump

The water pump is a critical part of your INFINITI’s cooling system. When the engine temperature reaches 180°F, the thermostat opens and releases coolant. The water pump then activates and pumps the coolant at high speed through the engine. The coolant absorbs engine heat as it moves and transports it to the radiator for removal by heat exchange.

A damaged water pump can’t push coolant through the engine, and a lack of coolant will cause the engine temperature to rise rapidly and potentially result in major engine damage. If you spot the engine temperature rising, contact our service department immediately and don’t attempt to drive your car. Our technicians can quickly replace the water pump, and the cooling system will work correctly again.

Rotten Egg Smell

Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic, corrosive chemical that smells like rotten eggs. It can form when the battery chemicals start to break down naturally. Sulfuric acid, the main chemical inside a battery, releases hydrogen as it breaks down. The hydrogen will float out of the battery and mix with sulfur molecules in the engine to form hydrogen sulfide.

The hydrogen sulfide is drawn to the battery and quickly forms an acidic salt that will eat into the terminals and eventually destroy them. If you smell the odor of rotten eggs, contact us so we can check your battery. We can temporarily remove the acidic salt, but it will return as the battery wears out. Once we install a new battery, the corrosion and foul smell will disappear.
